Getting around Alghero

Alghero without a car: where to stay and how to get around

An evening in the old town, a stop by the harbour, sunset on the city walls: Alghero is a lovely place to explore on foot. Choose a base that suits your days and you will not need a car every time you go out. Here is how to plan your arrival, your walks and trips further afield.

From the airport to Alghero

ARST runs a year-round bus service between Alghero Airport and the town. The stops are outside the terminal, around 150 metres from arrivals. The town terminus is on Via Catalogna; look for timetable 9373, the AL.F.A. service.

Allow time to leave the aircraft, collect your bags and walk to the stop. The airport website explains ticket purchases; check the ARST timetable for your travel date and direction. Do not assume the return journey follows the same times.

For a late arrival or an unsuitable bus connection, consider a taxi or a pre-booked transfer. Confirm your destination, luggage, any child seat and the fare directly with the provider.

Walking from Via Catalogna to your apartment

Vista Mare and Superior Kennedy are at Via Fratelli Kennedy 57. From Via Catalogna, the walk is approximately 1 km, or 15 minutes, towards Via Kennedy.

Like at Home Superior is at Via Pasquale Paoli 49; Second Floor is at number 47. The walk to number 49 is approximately 1.2 km, or 16 minutes, via Via Garibaldi. Check the entrance for your apartment before setting off.

These Google Maps estimates were checked on 13 October 2026 and allow no stops. Leave extra time with luggage, children or hot weather. An intermediate bus stop may be more convenient, but check the route and direction first. The links below open walking directions.

Walks we recommend to our guests

The old town, harbour and city walls are our favourite suggestions for an evening stroll. You can combine them or save a different walk for each evening, with time to stop whenever something catches your eye.

Lido di San Giovanni is the town's sandy beach. If you plan beach mornings and evenings in the old town, choose your apartment around the walk you will make most often.

Choose a base for your everyday plans

A short walk feels different with shopping bags, beach towels or tired children. Check the address and the actual route. Being close to the sea can mean a promenade or a rocky shore, rather than a sandy beach.

Look at the beds as well as the guest capacity: two double bedrooms are different from a double bedroom and a twin room. Ask us if you would like help choosing.

  • Consider your most frequent walk: to the beach or to the old town.
  • Think about groceries, luggage and the return journey after a day out.
  • Share your arrival time and let us know about delays.

Plan ahead for trips outside town

Capo Caccia, Porto Conte and beaches outside Alghero need a separate transport plan. If you want a different beach each day, check the connections rather than assuming everywhere is within walking distance.

Neptune's Grotto can be reached by boat from Alghero or by land via Capo Caccia. Its official website lists ARST route 9321 and a seasonal Beach Bus. Check operating dates, the return journey and access arrangements before booking; access also depends on sea conditions.

Save the correct stop or departure pier, the last return service and an alternative if your plans change. A bus to Capo Caccia and admission to the grotto are separate arrangements.

Before arrival and your flight home

  • Save the apartment address and our contact details; send us your expected arrival time.
  • Check official timetables for your dates, including Sundays, holidays and seasonal changes.
  • For your flight home, work backwards from the time you need to reach the airport, allowing for the walk, waiting time and bus journey.
